Smiling is a precious ornament for everyone who can wear always without any cost. Girl’s smilings are admired by gents always. Every girl has a unique smile and most of them like to spread their smile in front of the camera. However, some girls don’t show smiles for their portraits. Here you can see a series of captures of girls without smiles on their faces.
Charlotte is a photographer from North Carolina and her black and white portrait-based photos of young girls are inspired all. It is famous as Brooke Light.
Light’s photography captures stripped-down images, presenting children in a setting devoid of props and unnecessary distractions. Notably, you won’t come across any contrived smiles on the faces of these young subjects. Light fosters an environment in her Moody Mini Sessions where children are encouraged to unwind and embrace their authentic selves, free from the expectation to smile. The outcome? Poignant portraits that authentically capture the essence of each child.
The idea struck Light while she was photographing her niece, Ruby. “I realized pretty quickly that because she was wearing what she wanted to and I wasn’t making her smile, she was giving me some incredibly powerful looks,” she said.
“For me, it comes back to the performative aspect of smiling in situations that you don’t want to. It’s a subtle conditioning that says other people would be more comfortable if I was smiling/happy right now, so I’m going to choose their comfort over my own.” She explained again.
Smiling captures are precious. However, these clicks also have a different vibe.
“It’s an acknowledgment that we, as women, are often expected to make a situation more comfortable/enjoyable for everyone else with our smile,” Light explained. “The earlier we can release young girls from this constant narrative, the better their chances of not constantly doubting their feelings and place in any given situation.”
